South Carolina School Of Midwifery is a state approved Midwife School. The school is offered by class instruction one day a week, with additional work completed at home. Clinical hours are completed at Upstate Birth Center.
The other choice which is also approved by SC is the self-study program. This program works well for out of state students, however you must be a self motivated student with resources for your clinical hours, or be willing to travel.
All that is required for either program is a High School Diploma or GED and a love and desire to become a midwife.

I just wanted to add a brief history to the school, My name is Mereinda I have been a midwife for 27 years, and have given birth to 8 children of which 6 were born at home. South Carolina School was started at the request of my apprentice Malita Franzen, she could not find a midwife school that was available, affordable, or met the needs of her families schedule. So she agreed to type while I talked and researched the state requirements and this is how the school began. Due to health conditions she was not able to become a midwife, but her desire has helped many ladies to achieve their dream. The school was approved for licensure in 2003, I am proud to say we have never had a student fail the NARM exam!
